Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and ARfield when you create an account or pay for a plan. They are written to be read, not to be survived — if anything here is unclear, email [email protected] and ask before you agree to it.

1. Who you are contracting with

ARfield is a South African software product operated as a sole proprietorship trading as ARfield. Contact: [email protected]. All prices are in South African Rand.

ARfield is not a registered VAT vendor, so no VAT is charged and the price shown is the price you pay. No tax invoice reflecting VAT can be issued.

2. What ARfield does

ARfield converts 3D and BIM files — IFC, STEP, IGES, BREP, STL, OBJ, PLY, GLB and similar — into a form a normal web browser can display, and lets you share a link to that model with anyone. Recipients need no account and pay nothing.

Conversion happens in your browser. When you open your own file, it is processed on your own device and is not uploaded to us. A copy reaches our servers only when you choose to create a share link, because a link that others can open has to be served from somewhere. This is described in full on the Privacy page, which forms part of these terms.

3. Your models stay yours

You keep all rights in every file you upload, convert or share. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of your models, drawings, project data or your clients' information to ARfield.

You grant ARfield only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store, process and transmit a shared model so that the people you send the link to can open it. That permission ends when you delete the model or revoke the link, and it is never used for anything else. We do not use your models to train anything, we do not show them to other customers, and we do not publish them as examples without asking you first, in writing.

You confirm that you have the right to upload and share what you upload — that it is your work, or your client's work that you are authorised to distribute.

4. Your account

5. Paying, renewals and cancelling

Free tier. A free account includes a limited number of active share links and no card is required. It may be changed or withdrawn, but not in a way that deletes work you have already created.

Per project (once off). Buys one project hosted for twelve months from the date of payment. It does not renew and nothing further is charged.

Monthly plans. Billed monthly in advance through PayFast and renewing automatically until you cancel. You may cancel at any time, from your account page or by emailing us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep full access until then, and you are not charged again.

Changing plan. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current period. Nothing you have created is ever deleted because you changed plan: if you drop below a limit, existing projects stay exactly as they are and you simply cannot add new ones until you are back under it.

Price changes. Subscription prices are reviewed once a year and may be increased in line with South African consumer price inflation (CPI). We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price increase affecting you, you may cancel before it takes effect, and no increase applies to a period you have already paid for.

Failed payments. If a payment fails we will tell you and retry. Access is kept during a short grace period; if payment is still not received after that, the account moves to the free tier rather than being deleted.

6. Refunds and your consumer rights

If ARfield does not do what this site says it does, tell us and we will refund you. That is the whole policy, and it is deliberately simpler than your legal minimum.

Where the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 applies to you, nothing in these terms limits your rights under it — including the right to cancel certain transactions concluded at a distance within the periods the Act allows, and the right to goods and services of reasonable quality. Where these terms and the Act disagree, the Act wins.

Refund requests: [email protected].

7. Acceptable use

Do not use ARfield to:

We may suspend an account that is doing one of these things. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.

8. Availability, and what we do not promise

ARfield is offered as it stands. We work to keep it available and quick, and we do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee or a service credit scheme at these prices — if you need one, talk to us about a licence that includes it.

We may change or remove features. Where a change would remove something you rely on, we will give reasonable notice by email.

ARfield is not a backup or archive. Keep your own copies of your models. Share links expire on the schedule shown for your plan, and expired models are deleted.

9. Measurements and AR placement

Read this one properly — it matters on site. Measurements taken in ARfield are read off the model you supplied, so they are only as accurate as that model and the units it declares. Some export tools write incorrect unit information, and ARfield flags this where it can detect it, but it cannot always detect it.

Placing a model on site in AR uses your phone's GPS and compass, which are accurate to roughly 2–50 metres. That is suitable for "the building goes about here" and is not suitable for setting out, construction, statutory approvals, or anything with a survey tolerance.

Do not rely on ARfield as the sole basis for construction, procurement or a professional opinion. Verify against the source model and a proper survey. This is a visualisation tool.

10. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under the Consumer Protection Act.

Beyond that, ARfield is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of contracts, or loss of data. Our total liability arising out of or in connection with the service is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

You remain responsible for the professional decisions you make. See section 9.

11. Ending the agreement

You may close your account at any time. We will delete your models and personal information as described on the Privacy page, save for records we are legally required to keep (such as invoices, for tax purposes).

We may end this agreement on 30 days' notice, refunding any period you have paid for and not used — or immediately, without a refund, if you have seriously breached section 7.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. For any change that materially reduces your rights, we will email account holders at least 30 days beforehand, and continuing to use ARfield after that date means you accept the new version. If you do not, cancel before it takes effect and we will refund any unused period.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.

Before anyone goes near a court, email [email protected]. Almost everything is faster to fix that way. Where the Consumer Protection Act applies, you may also refer a complaint to the National Consumer Commission.
